Dear Parents and Carers
Yesterday we celebrated the feast of the Assumption. On this feast of Mary we celebrate a special favour that God gave to Mary, our Mother. The Assumption means that Mary was taken up into the glory of heaven not only with her soul, but also with her body. The Australian Catholic Bishops' Conference determined that, in addition to all the Sundays in the year, the only feast days to be observed in Australia as holy days of obligation are the solemnities of the Nativity of Our Lord Jesus Christ (Christmas Day) and the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Mary is a model of faithfulness that we should try to imitate.
Father in heaven,
All creation rightly gives you praise,
For all life and all holiness comes from you.
In the plan of your wisdom
Mary, who bore the Christ in her womb
Was raised body and soul in glory to be with him in heaven.
May we follow her example in reflecting your holiness
And join in her hymn of endless love and praise.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
DAY AWAY & SPLIT CLASSES
Teachers, due to the nature of their job, working with so many children, are exposed to a range of colds and bugs. This often results in teachers being away sick. Every attempt is made to organise a relief teacher to cover the class for the day. However, at the moment it is extremely difficult to get suitable relief teachers. Casual relief teacher numbers have dwindled significantly in recent years due to teacher registration requirements. Casual teachers have to complete the same number of professional learning hours and other registration requirements as full time permanent teachers and this has resulted in many casual teachers leaving the profession and seeking employment elsewhere. Therefore all schools are ‘competing’ for the same small pool of available relief teachers. It is something Principals are trying to rectify and improve with system leaders.
At Holy Spirit, we have a Day Away and Split Class system established if a suitable relief teacher is unavailable. Students are split across all classes and take with them their Day Away folder which has activities prepared by the class teacher. This work reinforces and complements units of work being covered in class. Thank you in anticipation of your support with this matter.
Next week we will celebrate Book Week, always one of the highlights of the school Calendar. I look forward to seeing all the amazing costumes next Wednesday!
LEAVING HOLY SPIRIT
If you anticipate that your child will leave Holy Spirit at the end of this year, could you please notify the Front Office immediately. We are finalising staffing and class configurations for 2020. Thank you to those who have let us know already, this is very much appreciated. Naturally, Year 6 parents need not respond to this request.
Have a great week

Holy Spirit is moving to a new App the SZapp! This aligns with our new Newsletter and is part of the Schoolzine suite of platforms to improve communication with you. We will maintain both our Skoolbag App and our SZapp for a few weeks to allow a transition period. Here are the details on how to install the SZapp. Please allow for a few ‘hiccups’ which I am sure will occur as we transition.
We’re going on a Bear Hunt….
Looking for a few military bears who have gone MIA (missing in action). If you have one of our bears at your home, please return them to HSP Barracks before they are officially court-martialled!
BOOK WEEK is NEARLY HERE!
Just a reminder for parents, the Book Week Character Costume Parade is next Wednesday the 21st of August!
