Dear Parent’s and Carers
This Sunday marks the beginning of the new Church Year and the Season of Advent. If you visit the Church during Advent you will see the Advent wreath.
The Advent wreath is a circular garland of evergreen branches representing eternity. On the wreath there are five candles, three purple and one rose coloured. In the centre of the Church wreath is usually the Paschal Candle representing Christ. During the season of Advent one candle on the wreath is lit each Sunday leading up to Christmas Sunday.
The traditional colour for Advent is purple. This colour is said to represent royalty and symbolizes Christ as the ‘Prince of Peace’. The rose coloured candle is lit on the 3rd Sunday of Advent in anticipation of the ‘joy’ of the Christmas celebration so its colour is said to be a mix of Advent purple and Christmas white.
With only three weeks of school left we are certainly entering busy times both work wise and socially. Reports will go home at the end of Week 9. If parents would like to catch up and discuss their child’s education with their current teacher you are welcome to contact the teacher to make an appointment. Those families heading off on early holidays will have their children’s reports sent home in the mail.
Please have a look at home for any Library books that may not yet have found their way back to their own home. You can help us to minimise the number of books we need to replace by returning them as soon as possible please.
The recent warmer weather reminds us all of the need to wear a hat, keep hydrated with water and to apply sun screen (slip, slop, slap, seek, slide). Students are often too eager to be outside and play and can forget to stop for a drink resulting in dehydration. The school encourages children to bring a water bottle to school (or leave a bottle at school) and to stop regularly throughout the day to sip water. No fizzy, cordial or fruit drinks in class please.
Have a good week.
Thank you to the families who have informed us that they are leaving our community at the end of the year.
It is important for our planning of classes for 2020 that we have this information and we also have a waiting list for most year levels.
If you are leaving at the end of the year and have not let us know officially, would you please inform the Front Office ASAP.

This is always a great day for our Defence students to make new friends and bond with each other with the hope that when they get to high school, there will be another friendly face for them. They even get to have some fun as well.
Our end of year party for Defence students will be held on Wednesday in Week 9. We will be farewelling some of our students as they post out of Canberra and of course saying “bye bye” to our Year 6 students. Information will be coming home with your child next week.
All Defence bears should be at HSP Barracks by the end of this week. If your child has brought one home, please make sure they are sent back asap. Thank you.
