Dear Parents & Carers
As I mentioned earlier this term, reports for Semester 1 will look slightly different due to the changed learning circumstances in Term 1 and Term 2. Semester 1 reporting processes have been modified to provide parents with specific information about their child’s achievement and progress.
- The report will cover work completed in both Term 1 and Term 2.
- Student achievement will only be reported for the three main core areas: Religious Education, English, and Mathematics.
- Other subjects will have ‘Not assessed’ displayed. This means that, although there has been learning throughout the semester, it is not possible to make an overall judgement about the student’s achievement in relation to the reporting Outcomes or Achievement Standards against the Grade Descriptors.
- A new section ‘Engagement with Learning’ has been developed to replace the ‘Personal and Social Capabilities’. The new statements are based on the Australian Curriculum: General capabilities, and target four key areas of learning engagement: Thinking, Communication, Responsibility, Collaboration.
- There will be no General Comment. The inclusion of the ‘Engagement with Learning’ statements means that the General Comment section of the report is no longer required; the statements give detailed information on your child’s approach to learning.
- Semester 1 Reports will be sent home on the last day of Term 2, Friday 3 July and parent/teacher interviews will be held early in Term 3.
As I am sure you can appreciate, it is very difficult to assess student learning with such limited face to face teaching and assessment time this Semester. I appreciate your understanding.
PARENT COMMITMENT AGREEMENT
From 2020 onwards offers of enrolment for schools in the Archdiocese of Canberra and Goulburn Catholic (CECG) School System will be conditional on parents of prospective students agreeing to be bound by the Parent Declarations and Commitments that are made in the Parent Commitment Agreement (PCA).
The purpose of the PCA is to clearly set out at the commencement of each child’s educational journey with Archdiocesan Catholic schools and the expectations that CECG has of parents within Catholic schools. It is designed to help us to keep students, teachers, support staff, and parents within our schools safe as well as assist the operation of our schools.
We rely on parents supporting our schools, our teachers, our support staff, and principals like myself. Co-operative working relationships with parents and students are a hugely important part of delivering our educational programs in an environment that is both physically and psychologically safe.
PARENT TEACHER INTERVIEWS
We are planning for Parent-Teacher interviews to be held next term. Currently, Catholic Education has instructed us to only have video conferencing interviews with families. However, this may change by next term, so we are delaying making any decision just yet, as we would prefer to have face to face interviews. Stay tuned!
Have a great week. One to go!

FIRST EUCHARIST & FIRST RECONCILIATION

CONFIRMATION
The Parish team are currently organising a registration system for Confirmation Masses next term. At present, the Parish have two dates set for the Holy Spirit children to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation. These dates are August 4 and August 11. There will be two Masses each night, 5pm and 6:30pm.
As the Parish needs to adhere to government regulations. families will be asked to register for the Sacrament of Confirmation Masses online. This information will be sent out to families as soon as it is ready. Thank you for your patience and understanding.
CLASS MASS
On Tuesday we welcomed Fr Mark who celebrated Mass with 6 Quirk and 6 Van Tassel. It was a lovely celebration and we enjoyed having Fr Mark back at Holy Spirit School!
ALIVE IN THE SPIRIT OF LEARNING
In Kindergarten, the children have been learning about the Holy Family. The wonderful Kindergarten teachers have done a great job teaching the children about the Holy Family. The Kindergarten children made puppets and were able to retell the story of Jesus getting lost in the temple when he was a boy. Have a look at some of the wonderful Kindergarten children in action!

FAMILIES LEAVING HOLY SPIRIT (excluding Year 6 students)
Thank you to the families who have informed us that they are leaving our community at the end of the year.
It is important for our planning of classes for 2021 that we have this information and we also have a waiting list for most year levels.
If you are leaving at the end of the year and have not let us know officially, would you please inform the Front Office ASAP.
You can complete the online form by following the link below.
At the Futsal Club Championships in January 2020, Year 6 student Eden Rodda represented the ACT in the U12 girls competition where her team finished 3rd. Following the tournament, she was selected to play for Australia at the Costa Blanca Cup in Spain in July. Even though the trip to Spain has now been postponed due to COVID19, it is a wonderful achievement and we are very proud of Eden.
Bookings are now open for the Winter School Holidays at NICHOLLS OSHCLUB.
Please find attached the flyer outlining all the exciting in-service activities on offer each day. Our educators have prepared a program for our families that's jam-packed each day with structured activities including indoor and outdoor play. Our heightened focus on safety and hygiene means we will not be running excursions, or bringing in incursion providers these school holidays.
Please note:
The current funding package that provides for ‘free care’ has been extended, which means there will be no fees for any care provided up to and including Friday 10th July 2020. However, normal Child Care Subsidy (CCS) arrangements, that is Government CCS payments and parent gap fees, will resume from Monday 13th July 2020.
The payment of fees resumes from the second week of vacation care and will apply ongoing. CCS activity test requirements will be eased for families until early October 2020 to assist in making our programs more accessible and affordable to eligible families. We recommend that you check your enrolment in MyGov to ensure you receive all your CCS entitlements. If you have any questions about CCS or how to apply, please refer to the Services Australia website here.
To secure your child's place it’s as easy as logging into your online account here and making your bookings.
Kind regards,
The Vacation Care Team
